Crèche of the Congregation
Mexican Clay Nativity
From the stories of the Bible to today's struggles, this Nativity symbolizes for me: "God is with us."
The nativity was purchased in the Old City in Jerusalem during the Second Intifada. In the hopes that tourism dollars would help families survive during the intifada, Cliff volunteered to take brochures from the Sunbula Gift Shop in St. Andrews Scottish Presbyterian Church to the hotels and businesses near and around the Old City.
Beki & Sofya’s creche complete with guard dog and Matryoshka midwife!
Purchased at a Christkindlmarkt (Christmas Market) in Germany, the crèche was a gift from my grandmother.
A gift from my sister. The portable, soapstone nativity set was made in Kenya by local artists.
My dad made the creche about 60 years ago. My mom, Ann, has displayed it every Christmas since then.
An anonymous donation to the Waitsfield United Church of Christ. Appreciate the earthiness of the set and the skillful slab work of its characters.
The white ceramic set was my grandmother’s & the others were in my stocking, collected over the years.
My parents received this Nativity at the time of their wedding in the late 1950s.
