The Waitsfield United Church of Christ in Waitsfield, Vermont, an Open and Affirming church, is seeking a MUSIC DIRECTOR AND ACCOMPANIST to join our church ministry. We are seeking one person to fill both roles or two people to fill the two roles individually. This person should possess strong interpersonal skills, keeping lines of communication open between the choir and the pastor, and build and maintain relationships in the church.

Included in the Music Director’s list of duties are:

  • Select music for church services in collaboration with the Minister.

  • Administrative duties include arranging for maintenance of the church instruments, maintaining the music library, and meeting regularly with the Minister.

  • Direct the choir: selecting music, arranging for additional soloists or instrumental accompaniment.

Included in the Accompanist’s list of duties are:

  • Accompany choir and congregation with special music offerings on our Steinway grand piano and Allen organ.

Bonuses to both positions:

  • Provide music for wedding and funerals as desired, as well as ecumenical events held at The Waitsfield UCC.

  • Use church instruments to conduct private lessons.

  • Use our ample gathering space for your rehearsals, recitals and other performances.

  • Be a part of a vibrant community to the extent you desire.

The Waitsfield UCC has a long-standing choir program and is looking to expand the church’s music ministry in diverse ways, including congregational and youth participation, as well as continuing the gift of hearing music offered by the choir. We seek a candidate excited to help build on the strength of our music ministry. Our ideal candidate would be comfortable with many genres of music, both in playing and performing and arranging the choir to do the same.

Our worship services are based on themes suggested by the Scripture Lesson every week, which might lead us to pieces by as far reaching and diverse composers/musicians as Bach, Besig, Hank Williams, Sr., David Bowie and Lady Gaga to name a few.

The salary range for both the Music Director and Accompanist positions combined is $10-$14,000 annual based on experience, part-time, no benefits.
