Dorothy Peck’s 40-Year Ministry
Dorothy Peck completed a 40 year ministry with us last Sunday - January 7, 2024.
In our sacred story, the number 40 plays a strong, symbolic role…from the forty days and nights of the Flood to the forty years of Moses and Israel wandering in the wilderness; from the forty days Jesus was tempted by Satan in the wilderness to the forty days between his Resurrection and Ascension. Forty is a number of completion and readiness. When forty of something is done, what God has in store next starts to happen.
After forty years of serving this church in the roles of Pianist/Organist, Accompanist, Choir Director, Director of Music and so many other ways, Dorothy, with her husband Stan, is ready for God’s next plan.
We had a special worship service Sunday, January 7th. Dorothy played her closing organ postlude, “The Lost Chord” by Sir Arthur Sullivan, in loving memory of Jan Barnard & Emily Eaton.
Following the service, we held a reception in Dorothy’s honor in the Village Meeting House. We shared how meaningful Dorothy's ministry has been to so many.
The choir & congregation presented Dorothy with a commissioned anthem by Pepper Choplin. It was a joyful moment for all present & on zoom!
The Waitsfield Church gives God thanks for calling Dorothy to this ministry!
