March 31 - Big Fish. While some Beetlejuice or Edward Scissorhands fans may argue the point, this is probably Tim Burton's finest hour as a director. How did he make this film without Johnny Depp, you may ask? Easy. Ewan McGregor, Albert Finney, Billy Crudup, Jessica Lange, Robert Guillaume, Steve Buscemi, Danny DeVito, Marion Cotillard (in an early role, before she wowed us as Edith Piaf), and, of course, Burton's wife (at the time), Helena Bonham Carter.
Brush up on your Odyssey and/or Ulysses, Joyce fans. This is a story about a man named Bloom telling the story of a life, a death, and a really big fish. Whether you show up too early or too late, show up and remember how good the power of a well-told story can be. 2:05 run time. Rated PG-13
