March 24 (12:30) - Departures - This Japanese film won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.
A cellist finds himself without work after his orchestra is dissolved, so he moves back home with his new wife to start over. He answers an ad for "Departures," thinking he's going to work for a travel agency, when, in fact, the job is about preparing bodies for burial and entry into the next life, work which is as stigmatized in Japan as it is here.
It's too bad we cannot watch all of the HBO series Six Feet Under! This will have to do, and, let's face it, it is much classier than watching Claire drive the lime green hearse. 2:10 run time. Rated PG-13 (ish).
