Weekly News and Notes
May 5, 2016
Greetings Waitsfield UCC Family and Friends,
It was inspiring to be at the Vermont Conference Annual Meeting last weekend with our brothers and sisters in Christ from around the state. Our speaker Bishop Rev. Dwayne Royster offered powerful sermons urging us to boldly “Be the Church”, enacting the message of Jesus to love God and neighbor through works of justice, extending kindness and welcoming all.
There were also two resolutions that passed during the conference. One was on a Moral Economy and the other on the topic of Refugees. Both of these resolutions were discussed and studied by many there and they encourage us to do the same. The link to the Conference website is noted below and both can be found posted there.
Upon our return on Sunday we shared communion and explored the scripture in John of Jesus breaking bread on the shore with the disciples. Although the meal they shared was nothing uncommon, it was a holy meal and reminds us that when we break bread and sit with friends and strangers there the Lord is among us. May we continue to see the holy….the sacred in the midst of our ordinary lives. May we take those simple opportunities to bear witness to the love and grace of Jesus…who calls us into the Kin-ship of God.
In closing let me remind everyone that this is Anthem Sunday….you don’t want to miss this wonderful service of joyful song. See you there!
