Weekly News and Notes

April 20, 2016

Dear Waitsfield UCC Family and Friends,

Our Scripture text for this week is the story of Ruth and Naomi who travel from the place they have called home back to Ruth’s family of origin in a foreign land. It is the story of love and commitment between a Mother and Daughter-in-law who face incredible challenges and yet find hope. The biblical stories as well as the modern day stories we read in the newspaper or magazines provide for us inspiration. They also remind us that we too have stories to tell, stories that speak to our own journeys of faith, personal growth and development. If each of us took time to simply write out one story from our life where we encountered sorrow, pain, challenge or situations that seemed impossible and shared how that story was resolved or continues to unfold, we would have a treasure chest of riches to share with each other. This week I urge you to ponder, write out or share one of your stories where faith, hope and love saw you through, where God’s grace became apparent.

Send me your stories…let’s put together a book of inspiration….that bubbles up right from the heart of our own congregation. Let’s share the ways God has revealed God’s self in our lives. The stories are there….right inside of you…check it out…and let’s see what we come up with.

See you Sunday,

Nancy

Violent political actions all over the world have created waves of refugees and displaced people, unable to return home for fear of their lives.  Natural disasters have disrupted communities too, displacing people from their homes and livelihoods. OGHS donations fund UCC sustainable development, refugee and disaster ministries.  The theme this year is:  Go the Extra Mile.  This is one of our annual mission projects. Thank you in advance.

Taizé worship is the creation of a monastic community in Taizé, France, founded in the 1940s by a Swiss man known as Brother Roger.  This kind of service has become immensely popular with young people, with tens of thousands of teens and 20-somethings from all parts of the globe going every year to spend time at the monastery in France.  This will be an opportunity for you to experience yet another kind of worship. We think you’ll like it.
