Weekly News and Notes

March 22, 2016

Greetings WUCC Family and Friends,

As we prepare to observe Maundy Thursday (7pm) and the darkest hours of Holy Week we want to offer you the opportunity to join in this deeply meaningful service of remembering the life and ministry of Jesus. We remember his passion for the Kingdom of God and his desire for justice for all creation. But most of all, we remember the courage he had to stand up to the powers of hate and fear that followed him and ultimately led him to the cross.

This time of remembering is also a time for us to “re-member” with one another…to draw closer to God and one another as disciples who wrestle with what it means to stand up to powers that create fear and destruction even in our own day. As we come together we find strength in our shared vision for a world without fear and a life centered in the love, grace and peace of God. In our togetherness we gain a sense of unity, not uniformity, but connection and empowerment instilled in us by the presence and movement of the Holy Spirit.

The greatest news, the ….Good News, is that there may be darkness and struggle, but God is light and life and the darkness cannot overcome it. As my sociology Professor in College, Dr. Campolo, used to preach… “It’s Friday….but Sunday is comin’!” And that is when together we can shout…Alleluia….Christ is risen, Christ is risen indeed!

See you Thursday and Sunday,
