Greetings WUCC Family and Friends,

Each Sunday morning in Lent we snuff a candle on our Lenten wreath one at a time until we enter into the darkness that comes with Holy week, beginning with Palm Sunday.   Each time the candle is snuffed it reminds us of the depth and struggles that often come in dark times in our personal life and in the world around us. It reminds us of the story of Jacob and how he wrestled in the night with God and the Pharisee who came to talk to Jesus in the cover of darkness so no one would see him with Jesus and ultimately the suffering of Jesus and the cross.   Darkness happens….it is a part of our reality as human beings and none of us escape those times.

The deeper truth however, is the hope that is ours as people of faith. Hope is our companion as we enter into darkness. Hope is the confidence of that which is unseen yet known deep in our heart and soul. Hope is the light of love and grace that is stronger than the darkness. Hope is the knowledge that darkness will not overcome us completely and that God has promised never to abandon us.

As we move through these days and reflect on the challenges of being people of faith let us hold within us the light that is ours – the gift of hope and faith that is given to us as resurrection people….even in Lent.

See you Sunday….let that flicker within, lead you.

Nancy

Church World Service blankets: CWS is an ecumenical faith organization that does excellent disaster relief work. One of the ways we have helped over the last 10 years is to collect funds on Easter morning to help with this important work. They are often one of the first organizations to be on the scene with events like flooding with Irene or Sandy or when fire or earthquakes destroy homes. CWS provides all kinds of support. When people go through natural disasters and all is lost these blankets bring warmth and comfort to many. Please consider giving toward this mission effort on Easter morning. The blankets are $10.00 each.
